For the past two days I’ve been working non stop to get ffmpeg up and running again. Two days ago I was going to record some more and convert. When I went to log into my friends machine I found it was dead. A few AOLIM messages later and I realize I’m in trouble.
I got it to work once.. I can get it to work again right?
I first tried smooching again, but not many of my friends have linux machines and those that do aren’t set up for this kind of work. So I tried compiling on windows in a *nix environment so I can get my vhooks (the ditty.fallsgeek.com in the corner that I know you guys love.) That didn’t work a bit, so I tried live linux CD’s and getting it to work on my webhost (no audio love there.)
So I installed VMware and set up RedHat on a VM. After about eight hours of install hell I get it up and running. I spend another four hours getting ffmpeg to install. And I convert away. Then I try my pretty vhooks.
Of course I need some wierd dependency which takes another half hour, then everythings looking pretty and I’m tweaking it all out to get it to look just right. When VMware dies.
I reboot. VMware seems dead but somehow it comes back to life eventually. I copy over my files and convert. I go to upload them to the webserver when I notice the network connection isn’t working.
I reboot again. Everything looks in order. I cross my fingers. I upload. Ahhh.
And notice the pretty pictures on the video now :)
